font-family: Tahoma; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; text-align: -webkit-center; background-color: rgb(218, 218, 218);"]تتركز جميع الحلقات حول القط توم الذي يحاول كل مرة مطاردة الفأر جيري في حلقات قليلة يحاول توم أكل جيري لكن في حلقات أخرى تتم المصالحة بينهما وتكمن سبب مطاردة توم لجيري لمحاولة الأخير إفساد منزل سيدة القط توم وأكل طعامها الذي تأتمن عليه توم ويقوم جيري بمحاولات أخرى لاستفزاز توم مثل إنقاذه للفرائس التي يحاول توم أكلها مثل البطة الصغيرة والسمكة الذهبية وعصفور الكناري ونادرا ما ينجح توم في الإمساك بجيري لمهارة جيري ومكره وذكائه لكن في أحيان كثيرة يكون الحظ هو العامل الأساسي وتبدو العلاقة بين توم وجيري أنه حبّ للمضايقة أكثر من الإزعاج والرغبة في التخلص من الآخر ويظهر في بعض الحلقات اهتمام وعناية كل منهم بالآخر مثل في حلقة توم والأسد.
يحتوي مسلسل توم وجيري على مشاهد عنيفة فتوم دائما يحاول إيذاء جيري بجميع أنواع الأسلحة تقريبا من العصا للطلقات النارية للمتفجرات كما أن جيري أحيانا يعرض توم للتيار الكهربي أو يسقط علي رأسه أشياء ثقيلة ولهذا فرغم الشعبية الكبيرة التي ينالها المسلسل إلا أنه يوصف بالعنف المفرط لكن المدافعين عن المسلسل الكرتوني يذكرون بأنه لا يوجد دماء أو طعنات في أى مشهد من المشاهد.
تلعب الموسيقى دور كبير في الحلقات فهي تضفي الإثارة والأحاسيس على المشاهد وهي من تأليف الموسيقار سكوت برادلي الذي أعد توليفة من موسيقى الجاز والبوب والموسيقى الكلاسيكية وعزز دور الموسيقى غياب الحوار فشخصيتي توم وجيري نادراً ما يتكلمان وعوضاً عن ذلك يستخدم توم وجري الضحكات وأصوات الفزع وهي مصنوعة بألات موسيقية.

توم هو قط أزرق رمادى اللون يعيش حياة مدللة للغاية أما جيرى فهو فأر منزلى بنى اللون يعيش في منزل سيدة توم ولفظ توم في الأصل هو اسم عام يشمل القطط الذكور ولا ليس اسم لتوم بطل المسلسل الكرتونى وكان اسم توم في الحلقة الأولى Puss Gets the Boot "كاسبر" بينما جيرى كان يسمى جينكس Jinx وهذا اللفظ يعنى نحس باللغة الإنجليزية
بنيت شخصية توم على أساس أنه حاد الطباع ومرفه أما الفأر جيرى فهو إنتهازى ويعتمد على ذاته بالإضافه إلى امتلاكه قوة كبيرة مقارنة بجسمه كما أنه يملك ذكاء حاد مما يعطيه ميزة كبيرة على توم ومعظم الحلقات تنتهى بفوز جيرى إلا أنه في حلقات أخرى تكون النتيجة مغايرة تماما ويفوز توم خصوصا في الحلقات التي يكون فيها جيرى معتديا كما يمكن أن تكون النيجة هي خسارة الإثنين معا أو تصالحهما
وتتشابه الشخصيتين في ميولهما السادية فكل شخصية تجد متعتها في تعذيب وإيذاء الأخرى لكن عندما تتعرض إحدى الشخصيتين لخطر قاتل فإن الأخرى تسرع بإنقاذها
ورغم أن معظم الحلقات تنتهى بخسارة توم إلا أنه لا يخسر فعليا أبدا طوال السلسلة حتى أنه يتذكر موته الظاهرى في حلقات كثيرة عندما يقرأ ذلك في مفكرة جيرى
الكلب سبايك الذي ياتي في بعض من الحلقات كحلقة لحب وحلقة الصيد وهو في بعض الحلقات أحياناً يبدأ بكره الفأر جيري بسبب عمله مع توم

بدأ الرجلان تعاونهما في 1937 مع شركة ميترو غولدوين ماير (Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer) حيث وضعا شخصية الهر "توم" والفأر "جيري" وكان هانا يتولى الإنتاج أما باربيرا يقوم بالرسم. وفازا بسبع جوائز أوسكار. وأنتجا مع التلفزيون أكثر من 300 فيلم رسوم متحركة على مدى 60 عاما.
وأنشأ باربيرا في 1957 مع وليام هانا شركة "هانا-باربيرا" للرسوم المتحركة التي أصبحت مشهورة بشخصياتها المتحركة ولاسيما "توم وجيري" و"يوجي بير" الدب و"سكوبي دو" الكلب البوليسي و"فرد فلينستون" رجل الكهف.
توفي جوزيف باربيرا يوم الاثنين 18 ديسمبر 2006 في لوس أنجلوس بكاليفورنيا عن 95 عاما. أما شريكه وليام هانا فقد توفي عام 2001 عن عمر 90 عاماً.[/b][/b][/b][/b][/b][/b][/b][/b][/b][/b][/b][/b][/b][/b][/b][/b]
